ALLERGENS & DIETARY

At Paul’s Plaice, we take food allergies and dietary requirements seriously. We want all our customers to enjoy their meal safely and with confidence. However, it’s very important to understand that our food is prepared in a busy working kitchen where a range of allergens are present.

Because of this, we cannot guarantee that any meal is completely free from allergens or cross-contamination.

Common Allergens in Our Kitchen

The following allergens are commonly used or may be present in our kitchen:

Fish – in our fish products.

Gluten / Wheat – in our batter, breadcrumbs and some processed products.

Eggs – in some sauces, batters or mayonnaise-based products.

Milk – in certain items, sauces or coatings.

Soya – in some prepared foods or sauces.

Mustard – in some sauces and condiments.

Celery – in some gravies, stocks or sauces.

Sulphites – in vinegar, pickled products and some processed foods.

Other allergens may be present depending on supplier ingredients and seasonal products.

We keep an up-to-date allergen guide in-store. Please ask a member of staff if you would like to see it.

Frying Oils & Cross-Contamination

Many of our products are cooked in shared fryers and shared oil.

This means that even if a particular item does not contain a specific allergen as an ingredient, traces may still be present due to shared cooking equipment and oil.

For example, fish, battered products and some sides may be cooked in the same oil.

Gluten-Free, Vegetarian & Other Diets

We may be able to offer options that are more suitable for certain dietary needs (for example, vegetarian choices), but:

We cannot guarantee “gluten-free” or “allergen-free” meals due to cross-contamination risk.

Vegetarian items may be cooked in the same oil as non-vegetarian items, unless clearly stated otherwise in-store.

Please speak to our team if you:

Have coeliac disease or a severe allergy.

Require vegetarian or other specific options.

Need more detail on how individual items are prepared.

We will always do our best to guide you so you can make an informed choice.

Your Responsibility & Our Advice

If you have a food allergy, intolerance or serious dietary requirement, it is your responsibility to:

Inform a member of staff before ordering.

Ask about ingredients, preparation and possible cross-contamination.

Check our latest allergen information in-store, as ingredients and suppliers can change.

We will:

Answer your questions as clearly as we can.

Check ingredient labels and supplier information where possible.

Advise you if we believe we cannot safely cater for your needs.

If we are not confident that we can serve you safely, we will be honest about that.

Changes to Allergen Information

Our menu, recipes and suppliers may change from time to time. When this happens, allergen information may also change.

For the most accurate and up-to-date allergen information:

Please ask in-store each time you order.

Do not rely solely on old receipts, photos or online screenshots.

If you have any questions about allergens or dietary information, please speak to our staff when you visit Paul’s Plaice.
